Temp Mail for GitHub: Throwaway Accounts for Tests and Scrapers

GitHub requires a verified email per account, which friction-locks anyone testing signup flows, OAuth apps, or classroom setups. A disposable address unblocks it: register the test account, verify from the temp inbox, run your tests, delete the account when done.

How to do it

• open a disposable inbox and copy the generated address.
• Register the GitHub test account and verify it from the temp inbox.
• Run your OAuth, classroom, or signup-flow tests.
• Delete the test account afterwards. Let the inbox expire.

Limits worth knowing

• Never for real code. Repos, contributions, and security alerts belong on a permanent address. Temp mail is strictly for throwaway test accounts.
• 2FA recovery. Test accounts with email 2FA become unrecoverable after expiry. Prefer authenticator apps or skip 2FA on accounts you will delete.
• Abuse detection. GitHub rate-limits and flags mass account creation regardless of email type. Keep test volumes sane.

What GitHub actually requires, and where a temp address breaks

GitHub verifies by email and nothing else at signup, so a disposable address passes the gate without difficulty. That is the easy half. The hard half is everything GitHub sends to that address afterwards.

The recovery problem

Password resets, security alerts, new-device approvals and two-factor recovery all go to the registered address. Once the inbox has expired you cannot receive any of them, and support cannot hand an account back to an address that no longer receives mail. The account is effectively unrecoverable.

What a temp address is fine for on GitHub

Reading a repository, cloning something public, a one-off download, or testing an integration you will throw away. If losing the account tomorrow would not cost you anything, the throwaway address costs you nothing either.

The pattern that holds

Permanent address plus a passkey or an authenticator app for anything you push real work to, and reserve the disposable inbox for accounts you genuinely intend to abandon. Recovery routes are load-bearing — treat them that way.

Does GitHub block disposable emails?

GitHub is stricter than most consumer sites and blocks many known disposable domains. Try a fresh domain; for heavy QA volume, consider subdomain-addressed aliases on a domain you control.

Can students use this for classroom accounts?

For short exercises, yes. For coursework that spans a semester, use a permanent address so the account survives grading season.
